“Two is less than one”...advice Uncle Andy gave me many, many years ago, unsolicited mind you, about my dating life. Andy had lots of advice, loved his breakfast cheese box and chocolate desserts, shared stories and more advice, but most of all, really loved his family. His dating advice stuck with me and Andy approved of the “one” I married, many years ago. Picture from 2015.
With much love,
Karen Minard Whitehead, niece.

Uncle Andrew stepped in as my dad( Peter Fono) died when I was 12. He came out to California several times for family support. He was there while dad was in the hospital, at his funeral and at my Bar Mitzvah. He and my mom walked me down the isle at my wedding, gave a great toast to us, wrote an amazing letter to my new son and offered lots of insite and advice over the years. I will greatly miss you.
Love you. Michael and Susan Fono

When my husband, Jon, and I moved to New York City for his medical residency, we were true newcomers. Andy and Inge immediately called up and invited us out to Lake Estling for Fourth of July. We visited with them at restaurants in Manhattan, their house in Montclair, and the lake over the next few years. Both of them were so welcoming. We'd go out to the lake, have a great dinner, and sit under the trees on the porch. We drank white wine and talked about cooking, music, and philosophy until late at night. We canoed around the lake, enjoying the cool greenness of it all, and the white swans. Andy was always so full of energy. He and Inge were both so positive, excited about life, whipping up Hungarian breakfasts, and strudel. They were like the ambassadors of good will.
May you rest in peace.

Remembering my special uncle... part of my life since I was 11 years old! He loved to talk with you about what you were doing, what you were reading, what you hoped and aspired for in your own life. Swims in the lake, multi-course meals, lavish desserts and lots of laughs. Your life experiences and endurance are a tribute to your strength and resilience. Rest in peace.
