Dear family of Bill Senior, When living in Summit in the 1980-90s, I took watercolor lessons at the then Summit Art Center with Bill, recommended by the painters of the Essex Watercolor Society and the Drew Artists Association. I was a middle aged beginner. Delving back now more than 30 years ago, now an elderly intermediate watercolor student and also teacher. In late November a dear friend suffered a stroke. I determined to paint a daily watercolor, believing this may help her recovery as she relearns how to communicate. The memory of those lessons with Bill include those of his unique way that he taught me his way to paint evergreen trees. As I started to create clusters of pine trees, Bill’s how-to lessons flooded into my flow state of mind, and I have been painting these evergreen trees over and over again, every day. I have lived in Rhode Island since 1998, and since have been developing painting skills, but this time Bill’s words and his gestures appeared from the past into my daily attention. He is still teaching me! Today, on January 2, 2025, wondering whether he might still be teaching watercolor somewhere in New Jersey, I looked for words about him on the internet, for he has been greatly on my intuitive radar since November 19. I’m so sad for you, his family, for the loss of his life and your daily activities with him. I am also grateful for his thoughtful and kind, encouraging teaching style. My hope is that my story of his influence that an old woman cherishes will bring you a bit of comfort. Really, please realize this is incredibly coincidental for me - within the time just since he passed. His presence has been hovering in my attention since November 20. I’ll attach a photo of one of the wee cards I sent. Another woman in New Jersey saw it and requested one for herself to contemplate while she is mending a fractured leg. I am planting not just a tree but a small forest now in memory of Bill Senior. With delight for the marks Bill has helped me be able to create, I want to convey my sincerest sympathy with you all, his family, Libby Manchester Gilpatric

I first met Bill during our first year at NSFIA.. we Immediately hit it off as we both had that strange sense of humor, I had a white VW Bug his was light Blue.. I'll never forget working with Bill at his Mom's dining room table where we would mask off 4 paintings on a large Arches Block and work on them simultaneously to bring to 4 outdoor shows during the summer... He taught me some technique that I never learned in School, that I still use in my paintings.. I , like so many of his fellow Painters, Teachers and Students are so fortunate to be touched by his life! God Rest his Soul.. Bill will be Missed! ...Listening to ELP's version of "Fanfare for the Common Man" as I write this I'm sure They're playing this in Heaven as Bill Arrives!
