Obituary of Adelaide B Palmer
Palmer, Adelaide B. “Addie” of Hackettstown, formerly of Glen Ridge and Montclair on March 12. Addie was born July 23, 1929 in East Orange and lived most of her life in Essex County. She was the daughter of the late W. Richard Brothers and Adelaide (Carroll). She is the mother of Victoria Palmer, Stuart Palmer and wife Dorothy (Becky) and Brian Palmer. Grandmother of Jessica Palmer and husband Mark Bednar, Christopher Palmer and Kelly Palmer (King) and husband Eric King, Seth and Caitlin Seibel, Megan Seibel (Dobryn) and husband Zachary Dobryn, and Ryan Palmer.
Great-grandmother of Maeve Palmer-Bednar, Lucy Palmer-Bednar and Emersyn Grace King. Sister of W. Richard Brothers (deceased) and wife Faith, and Robert Brothers.
Adelaide received her BA from Chestnut Hill College, her MA from Kean University, and did additional graduate studies at Rutgers University. She retired from Bloomfield Public Schools in 1992 as principal of Watsessing School. Previously she was the Bloomfield District Language Arts Supervisor and taught at both the elementary and high school levels. Also, she was President of Bloomfield Education Association for several years. She worked public relations positions at United Hospitals of Newark and GM-Hyatt Division and also as a recreation specialist for US Army Special Services in Mannheim, Germany.
Other activities Adelaide was involved in included Child Placement Review Board, Children in Court, CASA, Meals on Wheels, Montclair Art Museum docent and library volunteer, and "We Care" ministry for church. Upon retirement Addie enjoyed doing genealogy work on parents' families coming from Ireland and England in addition to traveling throughout the country and world.
A celebration of her life will take place on May 11, 2024, at 10:30AM at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street Montclair, NJ 07042. The family requests
