Howard Cavalero, a longtime executive with Catholic Book Publishing, died Monday after a short illness. He was 66.
Howard followed his namesake father into the family bible business, moving with the company from its longtime home on W. 17th St. in Chelsea to a new headquarters in Totowa, N.J., during his more than 35 years with Catholic Book. 
He was the oldest of three children born to Howard G. Cavalero and Patricia M. Cavalero, who both predeceased their son.
Howard was born in Bloomfield, grew up in Montclair was living in Pompton Plains at the time of his death. He was remembered by family and friends for his dry sense of humor and his love of reading. He attended the St. Thomas More School in Connecticut, and graduated from the Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
He was survived by a sister, Joan Cavalero, a brother Robert Cavalero and his wife Fran, nephews Robert J. Cavalero and Dale H. Cavalero, niece Jennifer A. Cavalero, and several cousins. He was predeceased by another nephew, Peter G. Cavalero.
The visiting hours are 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street, Montclair, N.J.
A Mass of the Resurrection will follow Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Cassian Roman Catholic Church, 187 Bellevue Avenue, Upper Montclair, N.J.
