Obituary of Peter P Kenny

Longtime Montclair resident Peter P. Kenny, 82, died March 17, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Wayne, NJ after nearly a decade battling Alzheimer’s Disease. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8PM at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, Montclair, NJ. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Thursday at St. Phillip the Apostle Parish in Clifton, NJ Mr. Kenny was born September 8, 1934 in In New York City to Peter Kenny and Theresa Flanagan. He grew up in the Bronx with his parents and three older siblings, James, Mary and Patricia. Mr. Kenny was a second lieutenant in the United States army and served overseas during peacetime in the 1950s. He attended Fordham University and Fordham Law where he obtained his Juris Doctor, after which he practiced commercial litigation for many years in New York City. In 1966 he married Carmen Halblaub, with whom he had four children. He raised his family in Montclair, NJ but spent many summers in their second home in Adirondack, NY. In his later years he enjoyed retirement with his wife in Milford, PA. Mr. Kenny had a great love of hunting and the outdoors. His faith was extremely important to him, as shown through a lifelong devotion to the Catholic Church. Well known for his keen wit, Peter Kenny's generous and gentlemanly (if occasionally roguish) manner is remembered fondly by friends and family alike. He is survived by his sister, Patricia; his wife of 50 years, Carmen; their children Jeffrey, Peter, Megan, Andy and their spouses Mary, Katherine, Daniel and Amy; seven grandchildren Peter, Carter, Maya, Maggie, Riley, Primrose and Delilah; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
