Dear Patti and Dana,
I was so sorry to hear of John's passing
God Saw You Getting Tired
God saw you getting tired,
and a cure was not to be,
so he put his arms around you,
and whispered "Come to Me"
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we loved you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best!
Eternal be his Memory.

Dear Patty and Dana,
So sorry to hear of your loss.
A multi-talented man, John was a delight to work with.
I was lucky to know him as a colleague and as a parent.
He will be sorely missed by all.

Dear Patty,
I am so sorry to hear about John. The last few days I have been thinking about all the memories I have and there are many. He was one of the nicest person I know. When I saw him two years ago at a reunion he was so happy to see Larry and me. We laughed all night and he kept saying how much he loved us. Larry and I will be in touch but know you and your family are in our thoughts. Love, Jean

Dear Patty and Dana,
So very sorry for you loss. John was a very special person and will be missed. May the special memories of him help heal the pain of his passing. Most of my memories come from breakfast in our kitchen on Carteret Street before marching band practice.
May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Dear Patty and Dana,
I am so saddened to read of your loss. Patty, it seems like a million years ago that we were swapping "teacher husband" stories during our time together at Blue Cross! Always a twinkle in your eyes when you spoke of John or Dana. I am so very sorry. God bless you all.

John was an individual who contributed so much to his students and colleagues. Always one to offer sage or witty comments/observations,
I firmly believe that his legacy will be all of us whose lives he touched.

Patty and Dana, I cannot begin to express how sorry I am for your loss. And how saddened I am for my loss also. John was always my fellow outlaw and reminded me always how we had to stick together. He was kidding of course. There are no outlaws in the Banks family, only brothers and sisters and lots of love. I love you both dearly and am here for whatever you need.

Mr. Dreher was my high school physics teacher, what..maybe 6 years ago? And I still remember his laugh and smile! He was definitely the type of teacher that changed your day. Funny and weird, but in the absolute best way possible. I don't know if anyone left that class hating him (I mean come on it is high school, plus physics..total double whammy). Physics wasn't my favorite subject in high school nor college, but I'm in med school now, and I like to think that every teacher has affected my life in some way. And Mr. Dreher is 1 out of maybe 6 teachers that I remember and actually enjoyed from SPHS. He was amazing. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Dreher was my homeroom teacher when I first arrived in Glen Ridge High School. He made me feel welcome and comfortable in my new surroundings. Little did I know, he would be come an important role model during the next few years. He taught us so many life lessons in color guard. He always treated everyone fairly and with a great sense of humor.
Bill and I send our condolences to his family. We both have wonderful memories of him.
Truly a special man.

I had Mr. Dreher as a teacher in high school two years ago. He was weird and funny in the best type of way. Physics was not my favorite subject, but I loved having him as a teacher. He always told me that science was "my thing" and I need to be in a science field. I always thought this was encouraging especially when I was struggling and thinking about doing something else. Rest in peace Mr. Dreher

Many fond memories of Mr. Dreher’s smile, laugh and booming voice. I especially remember his response when the drill didn’t work out just right i.e. a trombone slide in your back – “Adjust”. Though it frustrated me at the time, turns out it’s a pretty sage life lesson. He touched many young lives and we were the better for it.

I was very fortunate to not only have "Daddy Dreher" for my high school "Physics is fun" teacher, but also as my color guard instructor. It was humorous watching him spin the silk flag around, showing all us all our moves. He delighted in referring to several of us as airheads, most of the time with a smile on his face. We did do our best to test his patience, and he was terrific with all our silliness! It was my favorite year in the color guard with him as our interim instructor. I am sorry for your loss, and prayers of comfort sent up. Thank you for sharing him with us at Glen Ridge High School.

John and I started out as young first year teachers at Glen Ridge High School in 1970
He joined our staff of the GRHS marching band and we worked together very closely for 4 years building a championship band and color guard
John was extremely bright, loyal, caring, thoughtful , and very hard working We became best friends , he was in my wedding and I have so many happy memories of those 4 years many of which we shared at a band/class reunion 2 years ago
We followed up with a get together at the good ole Town Pub with more stories and memories ending that last ever meeting with John saying "Schillings I love you" and me saying "I love you too John"
RIP my friend I will never forget you!

John,
I will never forget you. You were a great man. As one of my teachers I probably didn't appreciate you as much as I should have although I thoroughly enjoyed your class. My favorite memories came more from Band memories as I was the unofficial photographer and accompanied the band everywhere. You respected me and treated me more like an adult than a student. I will also always remember how good you were to my mom, taking her and your mother in law to bingo several times a week.
RIP my friend.
