I am very saddened to hear about the passing away of Gerald. He was the heart and soul of our peace vigils. Truly he was a man dedicated to something greater then himself. He was a man of passion and conviction. A person whose example should be emulated in these troublesome times. I pray that he goes on to a peaceful rest. He is missed and their is sorrow in my heart. Goodbye friend and comrade I will never forget you and your contributions to the cause of a better Earth for all.

Dear Theresa, Cynthia and Josephine,
So very sorry to learn of the passing of Jerry. He loved Verona and showed it in so many ways from volunteering to keeping the town council on their toes and to being a good friend and neighbor to many. I will always remember him and the beautiful Christmas Cards he drew by hand. Another one of his many talents....
Please accept my deepest and most sincerest condolences.

I am grieved to learn that Jerry is gone, but proud and fortunate to have known him and worked with him in the cause of local history preservation. Jerry loved this work and his enthusiasm was contagious. For Verona, and also for all of Essex County- particularly West Essex- Jerry was well informed, hardworking and always willing to share his information and lend a hand. In addition to his work for the Verona Historical Society, for many years Jerry was the President of the League of Historical Societies of West Essex. His insights into the need for these groups to work together was expressed through the efforts he made for communication and cooperation on community-based issues in historic preservation. Jerry was never one to hold back his views when it came to historic preservation or his other passion, the issues of services for mental illness, particularly at the County hospital center. He could be very expressive. I remember that he once offered a dog muzzle to silence a county politician at a public meeting. Jerry stood up for preservation in Newark, in Verona, on the Hilltop, at the North Caldwell Penitentiary, and regarding the Hospital Center. Working with Jerry I appreciated his efforts to improve communities through the League of Historical Societies of West Essex, the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association, the Historical Society of West Caldwell, the Newark Public Library, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and other organizations. As his health declined he withdrew, and I have missed Jerry’s passions for historic preservation and mental health and his sense of humor. I offer my sincere condolences to Josephine, Theresa and Cynthia for your loss. Sincerely, Beverly W. Crifasi, North Caldwell
