Obituary of J. Robert Brown

J. Robert Brown (Bob), 88, died peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Mountainside Hospital, Glen Ridge. Bob was a lifelong resident of Montclair. He attended Watchung Elementary School and graduated from Montclair Academy. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the US Navy in the South Pacific aboard the USS Louisville. After the war he returned to Montclair and enrolled at Newark College of Engineering (now called New Jersey Institute of Technology) where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bob was involved in many community organizations including The 100 Club of Montclair, Troop 12 of the Boy Scouts of America, The Commonwealth Club, and the Dunworkin Club. He was also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Bob worked for more than 40 years at CM Furnaces Inc., in Bloomfield, serving in the position of Chief Engineer, and ultimately as the President and Chairman of the company. To his family and friends Bob was known as Mr. Fix-it and was always happy to help with needed repair projects. His vibrant personality and his willingness to help will be sadly missed. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann C. Brown, and his brother, William J. Brown, he is survived by his two children, Robert A. Brown of Glen Rock, and Kathleen A. Sorkin of Whippany, Sister, Anita DePaschalis of Lincoln, CA, and his 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
