Obituary of George Rowan

 

 

George P. Rowan, 78 passed away peacefully on April 4, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.  George is survived by his sons Robert G. (Cyndee) of Montclair, NJ and Thomas G. (Mary) of Tampa, FL, his former wife Jacqueline of Woodland Park, his brother Thomas “Tucker” (Treena) of Houston, TX; his grandchildren, Robert Jr., Emily, Maggie and George.  He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary and his sister Marilyn.

A Mass Christian burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 10th at 10AM at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Church of the Immaculate Conception, 30 North Fullerton Avenue.  Interment Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Vistation will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9PM.

George was lifelong resident of Montclair.  He proudly served in the US Army from 1957 to 1960. Most notably with the Old Guard 3rd Infantry in Washington DC. He returned to Montclair to serve the residents as a firefighter for 34 years, retiring with the rank of captain.  George loved spending time with his family, Yankee baseball, painting and fishing.

George was a long time member of Montclair FMBA Local 20, West Orange Elks 1590, The West Orange Anglers, and The Old Guard Association.
