Obituary of Thomas William Ryan

Thomas William Ryan, 76, of Morris Township, NJ, passed away after a brief illness on December 23, 2024.  Visitation will be held on January 2nd from 4-7 pm at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St, Montclair, NJ.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 3rd at 10:30 am at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd, Chatham, NJ.  Interment is private.  For directions and online condolences please visit www.moriartyfh.com.

Tom (or TR as many called him) was born on December 4, 1948 in Scranton, PA to Francis and Mary (Smith) Ryan.  He was raised in Rochester, NY attending Bishop Kearney High School.  He then earned his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and an MBA from Rutgers.  Upon graduation from Villanova he moved to New Jersey where he met and married Linda Turnock in 1975.  They were happily together for more than 38 years.  A resident of the Chatham and Morristown area for almost 45 years TR was friends to many.  An avid story teller and amateur poet there were few that knew him that didn’t enjoy his company.  Tom was actively involved with the Alzheimer’s Association of New Jersey, Summit Speech School and St. Patrick’s Honor Guard of NJ.  He had a successful career in banking, golf course development and was most recently a commercial real estate broker with NAI James E. Hanson.  Tom is survived by three children, Cory and wife Megan; Scott and wife Maeghan, and Kaitlyn and husband Matt.  Seven adoring grandchildren, Avery, Brady, McKenna, Emma, Katie, Will, and Charlie; brothers, Mike and his wife Shelia; Bill and his wife Candace as well as sister, Mary Russo and her husband Joseph, along with many nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; parents, Francis and Mary, and brother, Francis.
