Obituary of Francis Murphy

Murphy, Francis Xavier, a long time Montclair resident, passed away on November 6, 2012 after a brief illness, he was 91. Mr. Murphy grew up on Long Island, New York. During World War II he served as a radio technician in the United States Navy where he was assigned to a radio station outside Paris, France in the autumn of 1944. He earned his BS degree in Chemistry from Farleigh Dickinson University then went on to be a chemist for over 30 years at Picatinney Arsenal in Dover, New Jersey. In 1983, Mr. Murphy received an award from the United States Defense Department for his contribution to the invention of a [money saving chemical procedure. He was a member of the Montclair Engineers Club. Mr. Murphy was pre-deceased in 2009 by his wife, Janet Crowley Murphy, and a favorite cousin, Mary Regan Weed. He is survived by a niece, Karen Murphy Bernstein of Massapequa, N.Y., two nephews, John F. Murphy of Woodbridge, VA and Robert. Also surviving him are a cousin, Brother Tom Regan and several loyal friends including Lucy Fitzgerald and Irene DeBernardo. Visiting will be Saturday at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street Montclair, N.J. from 9AM to 10:15AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 30 North Fullerton Avenue Montclair, NJ. Interment private.
