Obituary of Harvey Kushner
Harvey Neil Kushner, consummate gentleman, was born in Brooklyn, grew up in Fresh Meadows, Queens, and spent most of his adult life in New Jersey. An incredibly generous man, and friend to virtually all he met, to call Harvey an ‘avid golfer’ would be an understatement. Golf was a way of life. Harvey was known throughout Northern New Jersey golf courses and driving ranges as a dapper dresser and man who could converse about any topic. He was never happier than when he was introducing a new player to golf, and bought the first set of clubs for many a young player who showed interest in the game.
In addition to golf, Harvey was a fixture at various restaurants – especially steakhouses – throughout New Jersey. Other than spending time with family, Harvey’s perfect day comprised a round of golf in a bright sweater, heading out for a burger at a new pub, and driving there in his latest convertible.
Harvey spent over 40 years working at various Macy’s stores in New Jersey, most recently serving furniture buyers at Paramus Park. His Macy’s career helped Harvey indulge his not-so-secret desire to be a haberdasher, much to the delight and benefit of those he cared for, who are generally dressed in Polo even today.
Harvey leaves behind his beloved companion of two decades, Mari Yassian, his faithful Labrador Retriever Morgan Calloway Kushner, and a family to which he was a dad, father-in-law, grandfather and uncle, roles he lovingly filled without hesitation. He is predeceased by his parents Veronica and Joseph Kushner, and he was most proud of the care he took of each of them in their respective final days. While golf was his passion and his hippo collection his amusement, family came first and meant everything to Harvey.
Visitation to be held at Hugh M Moriarty Funeral Home, Inc., 76 Park St, Montclair, NJ 07042 on Sunday November 12, 2pm-5pm. Burial to be held 11am on Monday at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Rd., Paramus, NJ 07652.
