Obituary of Peter B Ballance

Peter Butler Ballance, age 84, died at home September 11, 2023, in Montclair, NJ. He was a beloved brother, uncle, stockbroker, and jazz trombonist. Peter was born in Orange, NJ on October 23, 1938, to Harvey J. Ballance Sr. and Mary J. Ballance (Fitzgerald). He attended Montclair High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Guilford College. Peter spent many years on Wall Street with over 44 years as a stockbroker, most recently with Maxim Group. Peter, also known as Buffalo to his jazz community, was a trombonist who played for over 50 years in the New York area. He was a member of The Grove Street Stompers, the longest continuous gig in New York City, playing Monday nights at Arthur’s Tavern in the West Village. Peter is survived by his brother John Sr. (Eileen); his nephews, Brian (Barbara) and John Jr. (Andrea) and his nieces, Mary Elizabeth (David) and Susan Neilson.
