Obituary of Barbara Gibson

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of our matriarch. Born March 5, 1934 in New York City to Winifred Chester and Edmund James York, Barbara passed in hospice at Brighton Gardens, Montclair on April 18, 2023. A longtime resident of Rye, New York, she was an active member in the community devoting much of her time to charitable work for TWIG in support of United Hospital as well as a founding volunteer for the Rye Arts Center. Graduating Queens College with a degree in Foreign Affairs, she soon met her husband, Gabriel Darcy celebrating their nuptials with a year-long honeymoon traveling throughout Europe; this love of travel would take the couple on trips around the world over the course of their 63-year marriage. Summers in Fire Island or ski trips in Vermont or vacations at Lake George, Barbara made it all happen with grace, generosity, and lots of laughter. Late in life, Barbara enjoyed a new phase, working as a realtor for Houlihan Lawrence where she demonstrated a keen business savvy and a talent for sales. She is survived by her three sons, Scott, Mark, and Bryan and seven grandchildren. Her husband, Darcy, preceded her in death as did her beloved daughter, Kyle. A voracious reader, a ruthless board game competitor, she was a light and leader to her children and adored by her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Saturday May 6 from 12 to 2pm at The Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street Montclair, NJ 07042
