Obituary of Alvin M Neiman
Alvin Neiman, CPA, loving husband, incredible father, and the best Grampy
Alvin Mark Neiman, CPA, 77, of West Orange, N.J., passed away as the result of a tragic car accident on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Born in Newark, N.J., to Benjamin and Lillian on February 25, 1945, he was raised in Irvington, N.J. Alvin was the beloved husband of over 45 years to Audrey (nee von Ahsen) Neiman, adoring father of Sara (William Deni) and Blake (Emily). Cherished Grampy to Siena, Olivia, Luca, Amelia, and Adeline. Brother to Joel (Ann) Neiman, brother-in-Law to Gayle von Ahsen, cousin, uncle, professor, mentor, and friend to many.
Alvin graduated from Irvington High School in 1962, after which he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was a radio operator in Squadron VP-7, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida; Rota, Spain; and Cuba, where he hunted Russian submarines during the Cold War.
After the Navy, Alvin went on to study business at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and earned his MBA from Seton Hall University. Alvin taught at Jersey City State College, before joining Caldwell University in 1988, where he was an accounting professor for over 35 years. During this time, he also had a successful accounting practice in Montclair and Bloomfield, as well as many real-estate ventures in the area.
Alvin met Audrey on Labor Day, 1970 at her apartment complex pool. They married in 1977, and raised Sara and Blake in Glen Ridge. Alvin’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially at his summer home in Beach Haven, N.J. His five grandchildren were the absolute joys of his life, and they always sparked his biggest smiles. He was a kind man, who always greeted you with a smile, and wanted to help out. He loved animals, the NY Giants, oldies music, cookies, and exploring the waterways around Long Beach Island, N.J. on his boat, where many called him Captain Al.
Family and friends will be received Friday, February 10 from 10am-Noon, with a memorial service at Noon, at the Caldwell University Alumni Theater, located at 120 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to the Caldwell University Student Center for lunch. All are welcome to the burial at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J., on Saturday February 11, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Alvin M.
