Obituary of James David Love

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

James David Love of Newark, NJ, has passed away at the age of 61. Born to David and Connie Love, James is survived by his mother, his brother Robert (Julia), his youngest sister Christina, and his five nephews - Matthew, Wyatt, and Connor Love,  and Johannes and Benedict Metz. His father and sister Elizabeth preceded him in death. While attending Montclair High School, Jamie worked in theater productions, sang choral music and played trumpet in the marching band. After graduating in 1978, he earned a BA in Urban Studies from Rutgers University. He dedicated the rest of his life to friendship, family, art, music, dance, theater tech and his passionate desire to make the world a better place. Jamie had an affinity for the lost, both objects and people. He found readers for discarded books, introduced artists to new communities, and people in need could count on Jamie to find just the right tool/part/song/ingredient at just the right time. Sometimes, it was even just the right words. Jamie was always quick to lend a hand, to repair what was broken, to take care of family and friends, and to debate the issues of the day. He provided invaluable support to his mother during the Covid pandemic. His passing leaves a hole in Newark's vibrant arts community. A viewing will be at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street, Montclair on Tuesday, January 25th from 4 to 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Cassian’s RC Church, 187 Bellevue Avenue on Wednesday, January 26th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a cause supporting Jamie‘s passions.
