Eric W. Sherman of Montclair died in his home on April 4, 2021. He was 58 years old.
Eric was born on May 28,1962 in Brooklyn, NY. He is a graduate of Syracuse University and worked for several years as an entertainment editor/writer for the Ladies Home Journal magazine. Looking for more fulfillment, he returned to school for a Master of Social Work from Hunter College and analytic training at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies in NYC. He entered private practice and had offices in NYC and Montclair and is the author of 2 books. He was also a faculty member at the Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New Jersey
Eric met his now-husband Dennis on a skiing trip in 1995 and they had a wonderful life together in Montclair since 1997. They finally married in 2015 as soon as same-sex marriage was allowed.
Eric was preceded in death by his father Benjamin, and his mother Ellen. He is survived by his husband Dennis Hillerud, his dog Toby, his sister Marla Sherman, his nephew Jonathan Schwoerer and niece Elizabeth Schwoerer.
A private service was held at the Moriarty Funeral Home in Montclair and a memorial service will be planned for later this year. Donations can be made in Eric/s name to the Montclair Animal Shelter.
