Douglas W. Martin
Douglas Williams Martin, 75, a long time resident of Upper Montclair, New Jersey, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Leisure Park Nursing Home in Lakewood, NewJersey.
Douglas was born June 27,1944. He spent many hours plowing driveways each winter for friends and neighbors. He was an avid ham radio operator, following all police and fire calls night and day. Douglas retired from Valley National Bank of Wayne, New Jersey, where he worked in the Mail Room. He was an active member of the Montclair Auxiliary Fire Department for over 40 years, reaching the rank of Chief. He rode on Truck 2, also known as Quint 2, Group 1, located at Station 2, 588 Valley Road, Upper Montclair. Doug was a smiling, gracious example of how to trust God and love others well. He always had a joke or story to share and never meet a stranger. The first person at work, his work ethic was impeccable, always wanting to serve others.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Dorsett Martin, and mother, Gertrude Dawson Child Martin; brother, Robert Revere Martin and nephew, James Todd Martin. Douglas will be laid to rest at Rosedale Cemetery, Orange, New Jersey with his family.
Douglas is survived by his sister-in-law, Evie Martin, of Driftwood, Texas; his beloved friends, Louis and Linda Pavlichko of Manchester Township, NJ; Phil and Mija Madison of Cedar Grove, NJ.
