Mrs. Mannix was born on December 3, 1917 in Gary, Indiana, to Thomas and Margaret (Czerebak) Stachyra. She attended St. Hedwig’s Elementary School and was taught in both Polish and English. After graduating from high school, she worked at Montgomery Ward and US Steel, Gary Works. From 1944 to 1946, she served in the United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II and was stationed in Washington DC. She retired from Sears after 21 years of service. Mrs. Mannix spent her life as a loving and caring mother and grandmother to her three children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mannix is survived by her daughter, Irene (George) Weigly of Coolville, OH; her daughter, Joan (William) Dearborn of Flemington, NJ; her son, Thomas (JoAnn) Mannix of Kenilworth, NJ; her sister, Lillian (Stachyra) Rusak, of Gary, IN; eight grandchildren, Bridget (Doug) Moore of New Marshfield, OH; Brendan (Jamie) Weigly of Grand Haven, MI; Maureen (Christopher) Scott of Denver, CO; Erin (Joseph) Unish of Cranford, NJ; Kerry (Ed) Pyne of Westfield, NJ; Colleen (Dan) Bodek of Hoboken, NJ; Thomas Mannix of Chicago, IL; Andrew Dearborn of Flemington, NJ; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler Moore, Louisa Unish, Marina and Fisher Weigly. In addition, she had the loving support of numerous nieces and nephews, especially Kathleen Ormsby, John and Anita Zolondz, Diane Crofton, and Christine Peda. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Simon, brothers Ted Stahura and Joseph Stachura, and sisters, Marie Zolondz and Cecelia Peda.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kimes Nursing and Rehab Center, who have taken such wonderful and loving care of her over the past two and one-half years.
