Obituary of Edna J Turpan
Edna J. Turpan, aged 89, of Upper Montclair, NJ, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on April 24, 2018. Devoted mother to Curtis J. Turpan and his wife, Peggy; Susan J. Greger and her husband, Scott; and, Peter J. Turpan and his wife, Natalie. Loving grandmother to Richard Ruppert and his fiancé, Kasey Ferrullo; Connor, Michael, and Liam Turpan; and, Justin and Brady Turpan. Cherished sister to Gwen Minter and caring Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Charles, her husband of 41 years, her parents, Charles and Olive Minter, and her sister, Janet Casey.
Edna was always smiling, she was outgoing and loved by all who knew her, she embraced life and all it had to offer. Mom found joy in everything, even when deported to Canada without her parents as teenager, she used her time to learn how to fly planes! After becoming a US citizen, she came home to NYC and then Budd Lake, NJ where in addition to swimming and water skiing, she also was a Miss Budd Lake beauty pageant winner. Edna and Charles fell in love and married June 14th, 1958, then later moved to Montclair to raise their family. Edna’s focus and love was always on her family but she also managed a fulfilling career as a Legal secretary. Edna was always present for her children’s many activities including girl and cub scouts, school plays & concerts, and Hockey, Lacrosse, Basketball and Football games! Her greatest joy in life though was being a grandmother. She adored her grandsons and loved watching them grow up to be fine young men.
Besides her family, mom was blessed to have many close friends and neighbors who cared deeply for her. For over 50 years, the Johnson family - Bill, Marilyn, Billy, Margie, Stacy, Chris, David, Ames and Jimmy – was a constant source of love, support, friendship and laughs who enriched her life beyond measure. Mom’s friendship with Bob was a special joy to her. Beverly Rouse helped care for her in the last stages of her life and the love and compassion she shared with mom was truly remarkable and greatly appreciated not only by her but by the entire family. Mom was truly blessed.
The family will meet friends at the Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St, Montclair, NJ, on Friday April 27th from 4pm to 8 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at the Funeral Home on Saturday April 28th beginning at 10am, and followed by burial in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery, 851 Valley Rd, Montclair.
