Obituary of George H Miller

George H. Miller Jr. of Montclair, at 84 years passed on October 15, 2017. Born in Newark, NJ on August 21, 1933 the son of George H. Miller, Sr. and Anne Twyman. George was the brother of Joan Leister and David K. Miller. “Big George” as he was known to his many friends was a graduate of Delbarton Prep School and was one of the “Fighting Irish” having attended Notre Dame University. He was a man that was very involved in his faith being a Eucharistic minister and commentator at Immaculate Conception Church and was currently attending St. Cassian’s Church.  Among his many contributions to the community George served as Grand Knight of the Order of the Knights of Columbus at Immaculate where he had served the group for over 40 years. George was also a contributing member of the Mercier Club, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and several other civic groups and had been recognized as Irishman of the Year, Knight of the Year, Recipient of the Gill Gibbs Memorial award and many other honors. In business George ran the George Miller Insurance Company in Montclair for many years and still worked with Merwin & Paolazzi Insurance Inc.

George was well known for his clever wit and gregarious nature and was usually found behind the podium as a MC for numerous charitable events and business functions.

George was the father of 14 children: Marilyn, Lizbeth, George H III (deceased), Gregory, David, Mary Gay, Colleen, Kerry, Michael, Suzanne, Charles (CJ), Erika, Patricia and Kaitlin and also leaves behind 28 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was the greatest fan of all his children and their many sporting and cultural activities and was especially proud of being founding president of the Montclair Lacrosse Club.

George above all loved his family and was a man of great faith who may be best remembered for his endless humor and not being a man of few words.

His wake will be held 4-8 pm on Wednesday Oct. 18 at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St., Montclair followed by a mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, 10am, St. Cassian’s Church, 187 Bellevue Ave, Montclair, NJ 07043.  Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 712 Grove St., Upper Montclair, NJ 07043.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends making a contribution to Montclair KOC, Council 1277, 41 Watchung Plaza, Montclair, NJ 07042.
