Robert Lamb

–

Belmar, New Jersey

Robert Lamb, 85 of Lake Como, NJ, formerly of West Caldwell and Montclair, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Kathleen, and his children.

Born on August 6, 1940, he was the second of 6 children born to Edward and Jane Lamb. He was raised in Montclair, NJ and proudly attended Immaculate Conception Grammar and High School where his parents attended, as well as his siblings. At ICHS, he excelled in basketball and baseball and was a member of the ICHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army, completing his 2-year commitment. While in the military, Bobby was selected to play on his Division’s All-Star basketball and baseball teams in Virginia and Korea. He was extremely proud to serve his country, and the American flag was an important symbol of his patriotism, flying it wherever he lived.

After serving his country, he embarked on a highly successful business career as a senior executive in the yellow page advertising industry. He worked with major national and international advertisers developing and implementing marketing plans for them. A major accomplishment in one of his executive roles was leading the agency to become the world’s largest yellow page advertising company. He has received numerous industry awards and was a well sought-after keynote speaker for many industry conventions across the country and abroad.

Post-retirement, Bobby and Kathleen moved to his childhood home in South Belmar/Lake Como. Bobby loved being down the shore meeting up with old friends and making new ones. Not one for being idle, he took a summer job on the Belmar Boardwalk selling beach badges. He enjoyed his fellow co-workers and loved engaging in conversations with beachgoers. He was also a member of the Belmar Fishing Club, another place where his people skills shined.

Sports were an integral part of Bobby’s life. He played fast pitch softball for many years, starting at the age of 17. He excelled in the sport for almost three decades playing for numerous teams. His profound knowledge of the game and his excellent communication skills made him a leader on and off the field and eventually led to being a player/coach with Solomon’s Sporting Goods, the most dominant Men’s Major Fast Pitch team in New Jersey in the 1980’s. Bobby was inducted into the USA Softball of New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2021. Another hobby of Bobby’s was golf, having belonged to the Essex Fells Country Club for 18 years.

Throughout his life, Bobby was active in his community, volunteering for many different charitable causes. Near and dear to his heart was his alma mater, Immaculate Conception High School. He was the Founding Chairman of the Board of Trustees in which he served on for decades. He was a key organizer of the school’s annual golf outing which became one of the largest fundraisers for the school over the last 40 years. He was also a founding member of the ICHS Hall of Fame Committee, another major fundraiser. A few years ago, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from ICHS for his lifelong commitment to the school.

Other charities he was involved with were the Wounded Warrior Project, Covenant House, Disabled Veterans, and Special Olympics. Bobby was also a member of several charitable organizations including the Montclair Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Division 9, Montclair, and the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh Club, West Orange Chapter.

Bobby was extremely proud of his Irish roots and was a longstanding member of the Shillelagh Club where his father was one of the original members. He loved the camaraderie of fellow members and made great friends at the club. He relished marching in both the West Orange and Belmar/Lake Como Saint Patrick’s Day parades every year in his green blazer, Irish cap and of course, his shillelagh stick.

Bobby was the beloved son of the late Edward T. Lamb and the late Jane (Meehan) Lamb. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward, and his sisters, Virginia Clark, Maureen, Janie, and Maryanne Fess. He was also predeceased by his son, Kevin. Bobby is survived by his wife Kathleen, the love of his life. He is also survived by his son Dennis and his wife Marie, and his daughters; Colleen Maclay and her husband Scot, Kathleen, Kelly Gallagher and her husband Tom, and his late son Kevin’s fiancé Kimberly. Bobby also left behind 9 cherished grandchildren; Brian and his wife Melissa, Katie, Connor and his wife Francesca, Danny, Kerry, Bridget, Sean, Brendan, and Isabella, as well as 4 great-grandchildren; Riley, James, Scottie and Henry. He also left behind numerous nieces and nephews. Bobby will also be remembered and greatly missed by his wife Kathleen’s siblings; Mary Clare Earrusso and her husband Matt, Kerstin Scheper, Mark Scheper and his wife Yaneth, Eric Scheper and his wife Catherine, and many nieces and nephews.

Bobby will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, quick wit, charm, mentorship and devotion to his family, faith, and community. His legacy of generosity, loyalty, and love will live on in the many lives he touched.
