Phyllis Mae Crawford, a resilient and spirited soul born on the 25th of September, 1929, in Paterson, NJ, danced her way into the heavenly realm on the 11th of January, 2026. Known for walking around town and shopping at local stores in Montclair. Phyllis was a vibrant beacon who made her mark on everyone she met. Her courage and loyalty were remarkable forces, radiating passionate dedication that inspired everyone around her.
Phyllis was a loyal member of St. Mark’s Baptist Church in Montclair, living her life in a way that reflected her faith's teachings. To quote the biblical verse that she held dear, 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Indeed, Phyllis was an embodiment of these words, showing unwavering dedication and tenacity in all aspects of her life.
Our brave Phyllis was a woman of many hats, but the one she wore with utmost pride was that of a devoted mother, grandmother, and caretaker for the Foley family. Her steadfast devotion to her family was undeniable and what mattered the most to her. She is survived by her loving son, Fidelio Suffern, and her adoring grandchildren, Jarett and Alia Suffern. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Gladys Brazzel, and her siblings, William, Roger, Lester, and Gladys Sappington.
Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Wednesday, the 21st of January, 2026 at 10:00am EST at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street, Montclair, New Jersey, 07042. A prayer service will follow at the same venue at 10:30am EST. The family welcomes all who knew and loved Phyllis to join in celebrating her spirited life and sharing in the comfort of communal remembrance.
In keeping with her vibrant spirit, we encourage everyone to share their memories and photos of Phyllis on her memorial page.
