Mary Beth Powers

Mary Beth Powers entered eternal life peacefully on June 27, 2026 at the age of 74. Born in Paterson, NJ to Ralph and Elizabeth (McKernan) Powers, Mary Beth grew up in Montclair before moving to Verona. Most recently she has been a resident of The Cliffs at Eagle Rock, West Orange, NJ. She is survived by her sisters Maureen Powers, Kathleen “Steve” Gowen, Jacqueline Powers, Colleen Powers and Margaret Powers; her brother’s Martin “Ellen” Powers and Michael “Joan” Powers, brother-in-law Anthony Tarinelli, as well as multiple nieces and nephews which she would follow with great joy. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Sharon, Ralph, Charles, Ann and brother-in-law, John O’Neill.

Following her graduation from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, New Jersey, she began a lengthy career with New Jersey Bell Telephone Company. Following her retirement from Bell Tel, Mary Beth pursued many different opportunities to keep her working on a part time basis. To give to the less fortunate was a passion for Mary Beth and aside from food pantries in the area, she was always on a mission to identify the next recipient.

Mary Beth had a great love of the Jersey Shore and had fond memories of the August trips with the family to “1824” Belmar. The years to follow included many visits to shore towns along the coast with friends and family. The stories are endless and will live in our hearts forever. She loved Montclair and was truly an expert on all the hot spots. She was happy to cruise around town to identify the location of all new stop signs and traffic lights. Mary Beth’s greatest joys centered around family, friends, good food, beverages, laughter and love.

A memorial service to celebrate Mary Beth's life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:30am EDT at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, located at 30 North Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ. We invite all who knew and loved Mary Beth to join us. Those wishing to honor Mary Beth‘s memory may make a donation to The Cliffs at Eagle Rock, 707 Eagle Rock Ave., West Orange, NJ. The love, care and support provided by the entire staff at The Cliffs has been nothing short of a godsend to Mary Beth and the entire Powers family.
