Lawrence Lemley

–

Bloomfield, New Jersey

Lawrence J. Lemley, 74, of Clifton, passed away on June 22, 2026, after a short illness. Born in Ohio, Larry moved with his family to Piscataway, New Jersey in 1959. He later settled in the Montclair area, where he lived for over fifty years. He got a bachelor’s degree in sociology and worked in Facilities Maintenance at Montclair State University until his recent retirement.

Many Montclair residents knew Larry from Grove Convenience, where he worked part-time for forty years.

Larry enjoyed word games, baseball history and trivia contests. He ran the New York City Marathon and took many trips to Europe.

Larry was the devoted son of the late Grace and Evan Lemley. He is lovingly survived by his brother Ward Lemley and his sister Cynthia (Harald) Lehmann. He was a cherished uncle of Chris (Rita), Justin (Sam), Jocelyn and Davis Lemley, a kind great-uncle to Jack, Jett and Andi and a dear brother-in-law to Barbara and Kathy. Larry’s memory will live on through his family and friends, who will fondly remember his wry humor, his kindness and his generosity of spirit.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street, 07042, Montclair.

Those wishing to honor Larry’s memory may make a donation to Toni’s Kitchen, a food ministry of St. Luke’s Church in Montclair, whose goal is to ensure reliable access to healthy food for local residents. www.toniskitchen.org
