Jorel was born and raised in Jacmel, Haiti, a city that remained deeply rooted in his heart throughout his life. From a young age, he stood out for his intelligence, discipline, and strong commitment to education. He attended Frères Clément school and later completed his secondary education at Lycée Toussaint Louverture in Port-au-Prince, where he built the foundation that would guide his path.
He began his career as an immigration inspector, but due to political challenges, he returned to his hometown of Jacmel. There, he dedicated himself to teaching at Collège Suisse for about ten years. Jorel quickly became known as one of the most respected teachers of his generation. He taught math and Spanish with passion, inspiring many students and leaving a lasting impact on his community.
After leaving teaching, he moved to the United States. In the early 1990s, during a visit to Haiti to see his family, he met Marlene Décime. She deeply admired him, having already heard about his reputation as an exceptional teacher. Their connection grew naturally, and they were married in 1995. Together, they built a life centered on love, respect, and family.
Jorel worked in the United States as a security officer, but beyond his profession, his greatest pride was always his family. He was a deeply devoted husband and father, giving his time, energy, and love without hesitation. He was always there, no matter the situation, ready to support his loved ones with consistency and generosity.
A simple, humble man with a big heart, Jorel found joy in taking care of others.
He especially loved cooking and was known for his delicious meals; his griot, in particular, brought family and friends together for warm and unforgettable moments. Through these simple gestures, he expressed a deep and genuine love.
Jorel was deeply devoted to his family, leaving four children, Joanna, Magldala, Frankline, and Gilbert, learning to be sensitive, caring, and always ready to help. His resilience and dedication made him a pillar for everyone around him.
His faith also played an important role in his life. One of his favorite psalms was Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want... He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul." These words reflected the peace and trust that lived within him. Today, they bring us comfort, reminding us that he now rests in peace.
Jorel often said that one day, people would remember him through the meals he prepared and the love he shared, and that is exactly how he will always be remembered.
