Obituary of Ruth Perretti

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth D Perretti passed away peacefully on Monday February 27 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 83. A native of Oak Park Illinois, Ruth moved from Livingston to Montclair with her husband Peter and three children in 1968. Beloved to her children, family and friends, Ruth was an active community member in many associations and charities; The First Congregational Church and Bloomfield College were organizations she especially loved. Willowbook Ministries, the Salvation Army and the Montclair Art Museum were also beloved and the object of Ruth’s attention and commitment. She was a lifetime supporter of a range of organizations that worked to address the consequences of racism and lack of equal opportunity. She made a difference. A Christian and a seeker, her heart and mind were open to new experiences and people. Ruth’s friendships were varied and her home a place of fellowship and laughter. Courage and grace abounded in confronting Alzheimer’s, and was an inspiration to her family. Ruth died one year to the day of her late husband Peter, on February 27, and within the same hour, between 9 and 10 pm. Her family think this can only mean they are in heaven together. She leaves behind her three children Peter, Earl and Ruth; three grandchildren, Frances, Madeline and Edward; family member William Hubbard and many beloved extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers it is requested that gifts be extended to either Bloomfield College or The Salvation Army.
